The X Academy and Cabrillo College are hosting our 4th annual Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival on Saturday Sept. 21 from 9 to Noon. The festival is a fun and engaging way for students in 5th to 8th grade to experience math outside of the classroom. Around 100 students spend up to 3 hours working on challenging math problems that start out easy but scale up to challenge the strongest math students. Some of the problems are even open, unsolved problems.
We need volunteers to help run the festival including table leaders who will lead students through the problems, and people to help with registration and setup/teardown. You can find out more about being a table leader in the JRMF Table Leaders Guide.
Setup: 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM
We will setup the tables in the festival room and the registration area.
Table Leader Training: 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM
The Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival Staff will train volunteers an hour before the start of the festival. Table leaders will receive their assignments and the problem sets for their table a few days before the festival.
Registration: 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM
Teardown: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
We will have coffee and a lite breakfast when you arrive, and a pizza lunch when we finish at noon.
